What I did in summer July-Sep 2022 in between term03 and 04.

What I can say as a conclusion is that …
it was definitely a fruitful summer to mark my 2022!
During this summer, I’ve been so lucky enough to be invited into the final round of apprenticeship in Territory Studio.
Within two weeks, we had to complete four 5s animation for 4 different themes. Here is one of the results of the creative test for the studio with a theme about gaming. I used Cinema4D with Octane Renderer for it.
For the presentation day, which is also a studio tour day, we have a chance to present our works and learn from others as well.
Even I didn’t get the apprenticeship job position at last, I still gained a great experience to meet other candidates and directors in the studio. I am quite satisfied with the result and I will definitely spend more time to hone my skill with Cinema4D. And I think I might want to create more works with neon light style.

Term 03 Personal Project
Overall, I am quite satisfied with my own improvement in this term. It is interesting to stay away from computer screens and get in the greenscreen workshop for visiting some shootings. Also I can apply what I learnt in Term01 and 02 to create my vision in this term. Even I did not complete my Houdini course as I wish, I expanded my creativity and software skill a lot, beyond my own expectation.
In next term, which will be my term for final major project, I will try to push my limit and implement my idea. I believe one of the best things to attend this course as a student again, is the freedom to try the skills that I was not able to in my past.
Now, please allow me to enjoy my summer break 😉
Material from PolyHaven, and I used Photoshop brush to add a little bit extra texture on top.
The reflection on the ocean is done by a gizmos on nukepedia.com:

Final retouch with two gizmos ( Optics and Virtual lens) for some imperfections such as vignette, lens distortion and lens aberration.
What is coming :
– Adjusting the CGI color grading by passes
– Adding small island as background and character as foreground
– Adding noise and overall color grading
Character png from mrcutout.com and ship png from cleanpng.com
To enhance the mood and tune, I can think of 3 ways to do the foggy weather:
Outputing CG with Depth passes to control the color grading, and Zfocus. However, in this scene, the background wind turbines are too tiny that, the result is not quite obvious.
Simply add a Ramp on top of layers and control the handles to create gradient color.
The background layer is using some online pictures to emphasis the distance of the whole scene.
According to this tutorial, I will need to render the Depth passes for creating this atmosphere.
What is coming :
– In Maya, output camera and wind turbines with passes in EXR
– In Nuke,color matching & grading
– Adding atmosphere of foggy weather
– Fixing the ocean layer with turbulent and reflection
If I really push myself to maximum:
– I d like to add a tiny lighthouse at the background to enhance the mood.
